CBD Anti-Pain
CBD, or cannabidiol as it is technically known, is everywhere these days. It is popular because it can help alleviate certain conditions that many of us deal with including pain, inflammation, and anxiety. The anti-pain properties of CBD are interesting because who does not deal with pain at some point.
CBD is made from the hemp plant, which is a cannabis plant like marijuana with one key difference. Hemp, unlike marijuana, does not get you high. The part of the marijuana that gets you high is a cannabinoid called THC. This is the part of the plant that gives you the euphoric or high sensation. While CBD is a also a cannabinoid it does not have the same properties.
Since hemp is a cannabis plant it was until recently treated the same way by the federal government as marijuana, meaning that it was illegal. However, this all changed in 2018 when the federal government fully legalized hemp. This means that although it is now completely legal there has not been a great deal of research yet on the plant. However, studies in animals have demonstrated that CBD reduces pain and inflammation, and studies of CBD in humans show that it is well-tolerated and has few negative side effects.
Many are clearly turning to CBD for its anti-pain properties. The Arthritis Foundation, who recently surveyed 2,600 people with arthritis and found that 29% currently use CBD to help as an anti-pain and anti-inflammatory agent to treat arthritis symptoms.
CBD has anti-pain properties by both helping to reduce inflammation, and by blocking the transmission of certain pain signals in receptors in our bodies. It does this by interacting with our body’s endocannabinoid system, which has receptors through the body including in the brain and central nervous system that help regulate things like pain in our bodies. CBD’s interaction with these receptors causes its anti-pain properties.
